Many who begin their spiritual journey whether it be thru studying REIKI, Crystals or energy healing will be familiar with spiritual journaling. It is the process by which we record our inner most “thoughts” on how we are progressing along our path. Journaling is a key tool in the spiritual toolbox but one which can be misunderstood or completely ignored.

Journaling in TRUTH is where we still our mind, it is not like writing an entry in a diary, we are not recording our day, we are expressing our deepest heart space on paper. Paper and pen are the most appropriate way of communicating with our deep heart space because putting pen to paper SLOWS our often busy and over worked minds. It can be come a sacred act and can be built into our self care routine in order that we gain more insight into ourselves.

Many who walk the spiritual paths at the outset will look for “teachers” for “mentors ” etc but the entire point of walking a spiritual path is to find YOU. Somewhere between being born into a human physical form and beginning to understand that there is more to the outer waking reality than meets the physical human eye YOU disappeared. Often we disappear under the sheer weight of the human family conditioning. Children are moulded by their parents often to the point that breaking the mould seems impossible. The presumed responsibility is eager accepted by the child who from a certain viewpoint is blinded by the affect that this will have on their own human life experience.

This can be seen in families where roles are passed down generation to generation, so if your father was say for example a builder and you are a male child born into this conditioning chances are you will “follow in your fathers footsteps” and become a builder. This example is used for illustration only, there are many footsteps that are walked in by the child of the parent and it is only when the footsteps are illuminated that said child can understand the “following” and the expectations that this creates.

Those who begin to find fragments of themselves along the spiritual path naturally begin to heal and to begin to view the world in a separate way from the conditioning and this is not usually tolerated by the human family lineage, from the odd retort to out right hostility for holding views or by trying to live in a different way, there are various forms in which this non toleration can manifest.

At this time we are asked to pull our journaling out of our spiritual toolbox and once more return to “basics”. It can be very exciting to be pulled into the spiritual pathways, many get lost when faced with the shiny promises and the glow of the various crystals, rituals etc but that is where the “basic” tools come into play. If we do not listen to our deep heart space then how do we hear that voice that resides there? Many will try to promote the meditation space but this does not work in the way that journaling does. Whilst meditation can clear the mind, it can focus the heart space and it can reveal that which is blocking a path the reading back what you have journaled is not present. So the mind becomes involved and the meditation then becomes as the viewer not the participant. Like a builder in the example we must understand the tools themselves and when to use them to their optimum value.

Journaling allows the mind to quieten, we now live in a world that never switches off. There are at least 3 generations that will never know the peace that Gen X and previous generations bathed in. When shops were not open round the clock, when conversations were had with the physical presence of others, the pace of the human life experience could be slowed down in order that we could then recharge. Now many are using negative tools to recharge, the use of energy drinks, of sugar, of fast food, all to try to maintain a speed that humanity were never meant to walk within.

At this pertinent part of the year, when humanity are reflecting over the last linear 12 month period and trying to glimpse the upcoming linear 12 months we have the optimum time to go deep within. Allowing ourselves the space to reconnect at a deep level. Taking time to breathe and to relax, going thru the sacred ritual of putting pen to paper. Start with a question if this helps, todays question is “what have I learned about myself over the past 12 months?” Do not simply answer the question like you are putting a list of achievements or entering a diary answer. Take the question deep into the heart space, and then begin to write. The key to journaling spiritually is the writing, it doesnt have to be in your best writing (albeit has to be legible to read) or grammar, you are taking the essence of your very being and expressing it in human words. Do not stop to re read until you feel you have finished writing completely.

Then go and make a cup of tea or get a glass of water and again take time for yourself, take the space needed to read over and digest what you have written. You may find that you surprise yourself and you may find that you dont actually remember what you wrote as you were writing it.

This is one of the foundation KEYS to the spiritual pathways.
